  • As the 2010's went on, anime exploded in the west, with shows such as Attack on Titan, Hunter x Hunter, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and My Hero Acadamia, with them gaining millions of fans.
  • Scene 10
  • As for western-made animated shows, new animated adult shows had started to spring up, such as Bob's Burgers and the mega popular Rick and Morty. Kids animation had started to introduce more mature and darker stories and theme's with shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Steven Universe.

  • 3D animated movies became more popular, as the animation studio Dreamworks, who had made Shrek 10 years ago, was making How to train your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda trilogys, which were extremly popular. Disney hadn't fizzeled out of the animation world either, as along with Pixar, they put out movies like Frozen, Moana, Big Hero 6, CoCo, and Inside Out.

  • Animation as a art medium, though, had begun to change. With the release of Spider Man: Into The Spider-Verse, the world saw a movie the first of its kind; a movie that had blended 2D animation with 3D animation to create a comic-book-like artstyle.

  • Many other studios have tried to build off the idea Spider-Verse had. Earlier this year, we got The Bad Guys, a movie made by Dreamworks, was computer animated, but was drawn by hand, making the characters and the movie feel for alive and different.

  • Animation itself has come a long way from when it was first made in black and white in the 1930's. Disney was built off of animation, Pixar expanded on it, Anime showed it off in a different way, and now, movies like Spider-Verse and The Bad Guys are pushing the medium to new heights. I'm excited for what the future holds in the animation industry.
