- Transportation by water expanded in the Middle Ages (AD 500 - 1500). New ships were built. Voyages were discovered in the 1400s and 1500s.
- The steam engine was invented in the 1700s. Steam powered boats could easily travel.
- The late 1800s saw the first successful bicycles and automobiles. They made transportation quick and easy.
- In 1903 Wilbur and Orville Wright flew the world's first airplane. The jet plane was invented in the 1940s.
