- Hey there Shara. You did an amazing job today during Guided Reading. Tomorrow we are going to go up a level. I know you get worried when we advance a level. But, I set the bar high because I know you could reach it.
- I'm not a good enough reader to move up a level. Am I?
- Way to go Shara! You worked hard and you reached that high bar I set for you. You're growing as a reader. I am proud of you and you should be proud of yourself.
- Thank you for helping me move up reading levels. I want to keep reading and keep moving up.
- Shara would become anxious when it was time to move on to a new reading level. Ms. Mitchell explained to Shara it is okay that she didn't pick up on all of the reading strategies right away. That doesn't mean she will not learn them. She has to keep working hard and take ownership.
- Ms.Mitchell's encouragement and expectations of Shara's growth in reading motivated Shara to try her best and work with Ms.Mitchell to improve on areas she struggle in. Ms. Mitchell explained to Shara day in and day out that she set high standards for her but as educators they will get Shara where she needs to be.
- Shara's confidence has grown so much and now she's volunteering to partner read.
- Yes! I'm so proud of her and her growth. She took ownership and said she wanted to become a great reader.
