- One year on her father's birthday, Princess September, like each of her numerous sisters, receives the gift of a parrot in a golden cage. All of them teach their parrots to talk.
- But one morning, Princess September found her parrot lying dead at the bottom of its cage. She cried so much that the Maids of Honor, not knowing what to do, told the Queen.
- Waaaaah!
- September, it is stuff and nonsense and you better go to bed without any supper.
- And while she lay in her bed, she saw a little bird hop into her room through the window. She wiped her tears and sat up. Then the bird began to sing a beautiful song.
- That was a very nice song!
- The little bird gave her a bow.
- And then the little bird sang her to sleep.
- Yes!
- Would you care to have me in place of your parrot?It's true that I'm not so pretty to look at, but I have a much better voice.
- When she awoke next morning the little bird was still there, and as she opened her eyes,
- Good morning!
- Then the Maids of Honor brought in her breakfast, and he ate rice out of her hand and had a bath in her saucer.
