- Hi, my name is Linda Brown. Today, my family and I are going to court so I can attend the white school instead of having to go to the black school.
- We are doing this because the black school is much farther than the white school from our house, and I have to cross a dangerous railroad crossing to get there.
- Kansas currently allows schools in cities with over 15,000 residents to maintain segregated schools, and Topeka segregates elementary schools.
- This is a violation of the fourteenth amendment because it does not allow black students to have equal opportunities to white students. The black school is crowded, has an older building, and has worse teachers so it's not equal to the white school.
- These schools can never be equal as long as they are segregated, because segregated schools indicate that black students aren't good enough to go to school with white students.
- The Supreme Court rules that segregation of schools violates the fourteenth amendment and is a denial of equal protection of the laws, and is therefore unconstitutional.
