- France was made up of three estates. The First Estate was the clergy, priests, who ran the Catholic church. The Second Estate consisted of the nobility of France. The first and the second estate members didn't have to pay taxes. The Third Estate was made up of everyone else, from peasant farmers to the bourgeoisie. They made up 96% of the population but they are really poor and have to pay taxes.

- In 1789, Frane was in extreme debt from the lascivious spending of the royals and wars. The people on the first estate had a lot of money and lived luxurious life. Bet even on those moments when France was in debt they continued spending money on lavish parties. To solve this problem, King Louis XVI called a meeting of the Estates-General.

- The Reign of Terror, also called The Terror, was a period of state-sanctioned violence and mass executions during the French Revolution. The Reign of Terror followed the creation of the First Republic, a series of massacres, and numerous public executions took place. It was the beginning of a period of trials, accusations, and executions. This period of fear came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

- The king was executed because people feared that he would be called back in office if France had problems being a Republic. This is important because it shows that France didn't want to go back to a Monarchy and wanted to move on from it.

- France became highly militarized under Napoleon Bonaparte, who eventually declared himself emperor. After the defeat of Napoleon, a succession of republics and of restored Bourbon and Bonapartist monarchies alternated until the Fifth French Republic was finally established in 1958 which caused France to Unite and everyone to have equal powers.
- The French Revolution helped the growth of democracy because the people of France took the Enlightenment ideas and used them towards their cause. They overthrew their government when it didn't protect or provide for them. It stopped the Terror so people could run the government without fear.
