- 'I'm so sorry your husband has died'
- 'Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death.'
- 'She was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window.'
- Mrs Mallard has just found out that she has heart trouble and her heart is weak.
- 'Free, Free, Free'
- The next day her sister broke the news and said to Mrs Mallard that her husband had died from a train accident.
- 'Come down someone is at the door'
- When Mrs Mallard found out she was very upset, and decided to isolate herself in her room.
- 'When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease - of the joy that kills.'
- After she decided to think about her future, she then whispered a few time's 'free, free,free'.
- Then she realised that she could live for herself as she pleased. Then her sister said that there was someone at the door for her.
- But when she opened the door and saw her husband and had a heart attack because she wanted to be free but people just said she died of joy.
