  • One major theme of "The Monsters are due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is that mankind is its worst enemy because the people of maple street are willing to blame others to not be blamed. For example, Les Goodman's car starts on its own and people swarm him because they think he is an alien and he caused the problems that are happening. This evidence shows that people try to find a scapegoat and blame the problems on others. Another example is that When Pete van horn approaches, Charlie shoots him thinking he is the monster. This proves that mankind is its worst enemy because humans will kill themselves out of fear. The last time is when the people of maple street get riled up and one guy punches Steve. This shows that mankind is its worst enemy because when people are mad and riled up they will do crazy things. In conclusion, mankind is its worst enemy because people are willing to accuse others because of fear
