  • Yes they do!
  • This is when Rainsford and Whitney were talking about hunting, and Rainsford said animals don't have feelings. The text says "Who cares how a jaguar feels?""Perhaps the jaguar does," observed Whitney."Bah! They've no understanding." This is exposition because ut explains Rainsfords feelings.
  • Exposition
  • When Rainsford dropped his pipe in the ocean, and he was stranded until morning. The text says "He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and had lost his balance. The cry was pinched off short as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean Sea dosed over his head." This explains that Rainsford was no longer on the boat, forshadowing where he was going to end up.
  • I dropped my pipe and now I'm in the ocean!
  • This is right when Rainsford woke up on Ship Wreck Island, and was still curious about the gun shots. He was also hungry. The text says "When he opened his eyes he knew from the position of the sun that it was late in the afternoon. Sleep hadgiven him new vigor; a sharp hunger was picking at him. He looked about him, almost cheerfully."Where there are pistol shots, there are men. Where there are men, there is food," This is rising action because it is slowing getting to the climax.

  • This is when Rainsford escaped from Zaroff while he was gone, and he was trying to find a way to get him. The text says "He reached it. It was the shore of thesea. Across a cove he could see the gloomy gray stone of the chateau. Twenty feet below him the searumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leaped far out into the sea". This is the climax because he escaped from Zaroff, and now he is trying to find a way to win the game and survive.

  • This is when Rainsford found Zaroff and Zaroff congratulated him for wining the game. Then Rainsford was tired of it so he killed him. The text says "A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there."Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?""Swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker than walking through the jungle." The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General Zaroff." This is the falling action because it is leading up to what is to come.

  • This is when Rainsford killed Zaroff in revenge for what he had don to him. The text says "The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for thehounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .He had never sept in a better bed, Rainsford decided." This is the resolotion because it is how the story ended and was resolved
