  • In Paleolithic times, all people were equal and their one job was to look for food. They didn’t stay in one place for too long. They moved around in small groups of 3-5. Paleolithic age means “old stone age.”
  • But about 12,000 years ago, things began to change. People began to raise plants and animals. They domesticated sheep, cattle, goats, and mules, as well as plants like wheat and rice. This was called the Neolithic revolution. Neolithic means "New stone age."
  • Early people settled in two cities, both in the fertile crescent. The cities were called Catal Hoyuk, which is in present-day Turkey, and Jericho, which is in present-day Israel.
  • During the Neolithic age, people lived in complex societies and everybody had different jobs. Some people were treated unfairly due to what their profession or gender was.
  • The Neolithic revolution is considered one of the most important moments in human history because people transitioned from being nomadic hunter-gatherers to being what we are today.
  • The Neolithic revolution gave us a food surplus, climate change, inequality, diseases, overpopulation, more inventions, and more complex societies, which started back then but is still going on today.
