- Thomas Jefferson had the idea to buy Louisiana from the French, taking it to the senate to vote on weather or not it was justifiable to expand the united states.
- The outcome
- The senate decided that buying Louisiana was justified by "manifest destiny" because the united states was "meant to expand".
- The effect
- In the end Jefferson and the French agreed on selling Louisiana for 15000000$. This expanded the united states by almost double the size.
- The summary
- Since there was more land for factories, farms, and plantations, the economy boomed which made many people rich and powerful.
- Now we have more crops and factories which will help the economy.
- Since there was an increase in the need for workers, owners of plantations, farms, and factories bought slaves due to the high need for workers.
- The US buying Louisiana ultimately forced more and more Africans to be sold as slaves in the US. There was an increase of slavery of about 70% after this event. This event was a major success for the United States and its people. The African slaves expanded agriculture and made the southern part of the US depend on cotton to expand the economy.
