- Agent Macdonald has chosen Monica and five other kids to go to a special school. Monica is being forced into a car and he will not let her say goodbye or go home to her father.
- Monica's school routine
- L.P, I have a favour to ask you.
- The kids arrive at the Residential school, some are amazed by the building, some are intimidated by it like Monica. This building grand compared to the building they had at Tsartlip.
- A talk with Vivienne
- He used to call me pretty girl.
- Right before the death of Monica's mother, she promised to never cut her braids. Sister Mary Louise claims her hair needs to be rid of lice, so she cuts them despite Monica's protests. It was also the first time Father Maynard touched her.
- The letter to the chief
- Dear Dad, I missed you so much today. Things are okay now. I am feeling better than I was. I am missing a good friend. She left the school and moved back to Chilliwack. Her name is Vivienne. She was an especially good friend to me. I hope I see her sometime. Another friend is leaving today to go to Nanaimo. Her auntie says she can go to regular high school. Her name is Nellie and I am going to miss her too. I am working hard at my studies. I am still getting As on everything.
- The girl's day-to-day chores were sewing the student's clothes, darning the socks and cleaning the floors, they were more focused on the chores at the school. Father Maynard would get Monica into his office to do whatever he wanted on multiple occasions. L.P stands for little princess.
- One night, one of the oldest girls at Kuper, Vivienne, explains to Monica how she understands her situation. Years ago the same thing with Maynard was happening to her. Filled with courage, she says she is going to stop his behavior to save future girls.
- I'm gonna stop fat Maynard!
- Monica writes a letter to her father, but she lies about her life at Kuper to not have him worry and so that she can continue to learn whatever she can to become a teacher. She remained at the residential school
