- As Gina's teacher I would collaborate with her parents regarding any adaptions needed for her in my classroom. It stood out to me when Ginas parents were touring the preschool and the social worker had stated "Gina is not appropriate for this class". As educators it is our job to make sure our classroom is compatible for any and all students regarding their needs.
- Another important aspect of the school day for all children is socialization and peer interaction. Those two things are something Gina's mom had been advocating for but was not heard until she was 13.As Gina's teacher I would help her engage with her fellow peers. One personal thing I would do is have lunch with her and her fellow peers. Although this could not be done everyday, I would take the time out once a week to join her. I would also collaborate with the lunch monitors to make sure Gina is engaging with peers without me present, regardless of her one on one aide being present as well.
- Another key point that all educators need to keep in mind while inside the classroom is the type of environment you have set for the students. One thing that had Gina's mom concerned was the environment that Gina would be in. "I could not place Gina in such an environment that lacked stimulation, participation, and rich language opportunities!" As Gina's teacher I would provide different opportunities that promote growth and development.
