- After being passed up for battle school Will was chosen to become a ranger apprentice by the legendary ranger Halt.
- Will Learns
- Halt was a great teacher and showed Will the weapons rangers use and the camouflage cloaks they wear. Will spent Hours and Hours Practicing with his bow and his ranger knives.
- Will's Horse
- Halt took will to Get Ranger horse Tug. Ranger horses are not very big but they are very smart. They are much faster than big battle horses and they will do whatever their ranger wants of them.
- The Gathering
- Halt brought Will to the annual rangers gathering where all the rangers of Araluen gather. They meant Halt's former apprentice Gilian who is very experienced at moving unseen and is the only ranger to use a sword.
- The Hunt
- The three rangers learn that the evil warlord Morgarath is planning something and wants to start a war. Morgarath has control over these savage bearlike monsters called the Kalkara and he send them after Halt.
- Halt sent Will to get the help of Sir Rodney and Barron Arald. Together they tracked down the Kalkara and Killed both of the beasts.
- After Will killed the second kalkara he was honored and was givin the chance to join battleschool. He tuned it down and said he was a ranger for life
