- The story of the Roman republic, from the plebian side of the story.
- In 509 BCE, The patricians owned many wealthy lands and were called the "fathers of the state". They made us laborers and do work all day, we also had no part in the government whatsoever, and we had to serve in the army. We also could not be priests and government officials.
- Then a group of patricians was done with being led by an Etruscan king which drove him out and created a new government called a republic government and then again only the patricians could play a part in it.
- In 494 BCE, We then decided that we were done with this and we marched out of Rome and claimed that we will not come back till the patricians give us equal rights. With Rome quickly falling apart the patricians agreed to compromise something.
- The rebel continued on to be the Conflict of orders because when we came back the patricians still had more power than us. Over a period of 200 years, we slowly kept protesting and gaining power slowly, when in 451BCE the patricians agreed to equal rights and published the law as the Twelve Tables.
- In 367 B.C.E we created a new law and stated that one of the 2 consuls must be plebian. Since former consuls held seats in the Senate, this allowed us to become senators as well. Later in 287 B.C.E, we passed a new law for all Roman citizens, which gave them the ability to approve or reject laws in assemblies.
