- Herbert and his father are playing chess, while Mrs.White is knitting.
- Climax
- Sargent Major Morris came to the White's house and brought a monkeys paw. He told them that it was dangerous and not to wish with it, but the Whites did not believe him. Mr. White wished for 200 pounds to pay off their house.
- Falling Action
- Shortly after his son, Herbert, went to work, a man came to the White's house. He said that their son had died at work, and the compensation was 200 pounds. They realized that it was their wish for 200 pounds from the monkeys paw that had caused their son's death.
- Resolution
- Ten days after Herbert's passing, Mrs. White had the idea to wish for Herberts life back. She told her husband to wish, and he did. Suddenly they heard a knock at the door and realized that the wish had come true. Mrs. White was exited to see her son, but Mr. White knew that his body would be mangled and terrifying.
- As Mrs. White struggled to open the door, Mr. White tried to find the monkeys paw so he could undo the wish before it was too late. He got the paw and wished for his son to be dead again before his wife could finish getting the locks open.
- He ran to the door just as she was opening it, and they saw together that their son was not there.
