- In 1775 the Battle of Lexington and Concord started the American revolutionary war when patriots ambushed a group of British soldiers.
- Valley Forge
- In 1776, the colonists declared their political independence from the British Empire.
- The Battle of Yorktown
- The Battle of Saratoga included two decisive victories for the colonists that convinced the French to help the colonists.
- The Treaty of Paris
- When the colonial militia emerged from Valley Forge they were better trained and more disciplined.
- In the Battle of Yorktown in 1781 the British army under the rule of General Lord Charles Cornwallis surrendered to the colonial militia.
- We surrender!
- The Treaty of Paris in 1783 ended the Revolutionary War and and gave the colonists freedom from the British.
