  • One day after football practice...
  • Hey Harrison, how have you been?
  • Not so good
  • What's wrong, is it football?
  • Yes, I just can't seem to do anything right for Coach Malone. He has it in for me
  • Do you think it is all the coach or could it be something you're doing? Maybe more how you are feeling about yourself.
  • What do you mean? Do you think I'm imagining things?
  • Not necessarily. Why don't you go get changed and we can talk about it
  • While in the locker room...
  • Sometimes you need to be aware of your own strengths and weaknesses. Do you ever set goals for yourself?
  • I'm sure there probably are things I could do to try and get better. I have been having a pretty bad attitude lately.
  • Why don't I hit the gym with you and we can talk some more about some ways you can improve your attitude and self-perception. This could help in how coach views you.
  • Meanwhile at the gym...
  • You just need to remind yourself what a good player you are. There is a reason you were recruited for the team. Using self-talk can increase your confidence and help you remain positive. It's called intrapersonal effectiveness, I'm learning about it in class.
  • I do seem to get in my own head a lot. I tend to let the coaches negative perception of me make me feel bad about myself when I know I am one of the better players on the team.
  • Next time you're getting to feeling down on yourself, just remember to trust your inner voice and remind yourself of your football goals. Don't let anyone else's perception change that.
  • Thanks Ryan, that is some good advice. I need to trust myself and be more aware of when I start getting negative.
