  • Thomas Edison
  • Nikola Tesla
  • Direct current is the best, and I'm going to prove it
  • Fool! I'm going to win this War of the Currents!
  • Alternating current is far superior!
  • TOP SECRET Stay Out!Especially Thomas Edison!
  • Edison won't know what hit him!
  • Transformers... More than meets the eye!
  • Ha! My evil scheme is working!
  • Why my good man, have you heard of this awful Alternating Current that Tesla has been going on about ... Terrible stuff
  • I did hear about what it did to those stray cats and dogs... Jolly awful stuff! Downright dangerous!
  • The War of the Currents. On one side, the renowned inventor Thomas Edison. On the other, his former employee Nikola Tesla.
  • I am the champion, I am the champion, I am the champion... of.... the .... woooorrrlllllddddd
  • Sorry old chap better luck next time!
  • Chicago World Fair Electric provider contract
  • Waaaaaaa!
  • And what were they fighting over – love, money, religion? NO! They were fighting over alternating current (AC) versus direct current (DC). That’s right…Electricity
  • Meanwhile in Buffalo
  • Tesla had a secret weapon known as the transformer. A transformer allows electricity to move over a long distance safely, but it could only work with AC current
  • And the winner is
  • Nikola Tesla
  • Feeling the battle going against him, Edison changed tactics and spread rumors that AC current was dangerous. To prove his point he arranged the public electrocution of stray dogs, cats and horses.
  • Victory was declared for the Tesla AC camp. They were awarded the contract to electrify the Chicago World Fair in 1893... From then on it was all AC all the time!

  • In 1896 Buffalo city in the state of New York had their street lights turned on with electricity generated by the hydroelectric generator sat Niagara Falls. AC was much better suited as it could travel long distances safely, where as DC could not
  • So that's the end of that! Nikola Tesla wins.... Right?
  • So did Nikola Tesla really get the last laugh? Well, most electricity IS still alternating current. BUT computers, batteries, LEDs, solar cells and electric vehicles all run on direct current. So maybe it was a tie after all?
