- We see the beginning of Othello's downfall in this scene. He's been cajoled into violence and revenge by the scheming Iago; yet Shakespeare still depicts Othello as one who was bound to be overcome by passion, violence; possession and sexual appetite.

- "I saw my handkerchief in's hand! O perjured woman, thou dost stone my heart and (mak'st) me call what I intend to do a murder, which I thought a sacrifice!"
- This scene illustrates Othello being overcome with passion-fueled violence and jealousy

- The play depicts many racist attitudes of the day, making Othello out to be a tragic character who was bound to give in to violence and unbridled sexuality.
