- Thomas is brought up in the box, and is introduced to all the gladers. He makes his first friend Chuck and aspires to be a runner.
- Climax
- Thomas ran into the maze to save Minho and Alby, defying the Gladers number on rule. Teresa also arrives in the box.
- Falling Action
- Thomas and Minho are the first Gladers to survive the maze over night and kill a griever. The council has to take a vote on whether to banish Thomas or keep him. They decide to keep him.
- Resolution
- Teresa wakes up and Minho and Thomas find the griever hole
- The grievers start killing one Glader each night, and the Gladers decide to leave to maze.
- The gladers escape the maze and meet the creators. The creators kill Chuck. Shortly after the gladers are rescued by a rebel group.
