- Exposition Della has been working very hard every day after work to make enough money, so she can buy a platinum watch band for her husband for Christmas. Della has been working until her cheeks burned because it was cold. Della is determined to make the $21 it costs for the watch band.
- Conflict Della thought she had worked hard enough, and had enough money to buy a gift for her husband, but she only had $1.87. She was very confused, so she decided she was going to get 20 more dollars, so she has a Christmas gift for her husband. Now Della is not sure how to get $20.
- HAIR SALON
- Rising Action Della decided the best way to get enough money to buy her husband palatium watch chain was to have her beautiful long chair cut and donated for money. Della had tears dripping down her face after her hair was cut, then Della ran out crying, holding her hair in a bag because Della missed her long hair, and can not go not buying her husband a Christmas gift.
- Climax After Della ran out, she saw a sign that a lady was collecting hair in exchange for money. Della went in the lady's house and gave Della $20 for the beautiful, long blonde hair. Della knew she had enough money for the platinum watch band, she just had to find it.
- Falling Action After searching the store for hours, Della found a platinum watch band for her husband for $21. Della still had 87c. Della was so happy to go home home and show her husband what she got him!
- Resolution When Della and her husband both arrived home, Della had a watch and for Jim, and Jim had a nice comb for Della's hair. Della realized that Jim sold his watch to get Della a comb, and Della cut her hair short and sold it to get Jim a watch band. They both got each other gifts when the real gift was them being together.
