Nya and her family return to the village. One day, a jeep drives in, several children come up towards the jeep to greet the people, except Nya. As two men come out, they ask Dep, Nya's brother, to take them to their uncle, who is the chief of the village. When Nya asks Dep, he told her that they were discussing water.

The two men leave the village. The villagers begin the task of clearing the land between the trees. Nya continues to travel to the pond and fetch water. As the clearing expands, Nya would ask Dep how there could possibly be water when the earth is as hard and dry as a rock. Dep would shake his head, sharing his doubt.

On a daily basis, the workers drive back and forth to the pond and pipe as much water is required to function the drill into a bag as large as the truck's bed. Sometimes, the bag leaks, which causes the drill to halt. Which requires the workers to fix it, and then the bag leaks again. Their boss, though, would encourage them to keep going, sometimes he would joke with them, persuade them, but if everything doesn't go according to plan and all fails miserably, he gets cross, but not too often. They fix up the bag again, everybody, including the boss, gets back to work, and the drilling continues.
