- "We climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But Cyclops had gone afield, to pasture his fat sheep,so we looked round at everything inside:a drying rack that sagged with cheeses, pens crowded with lambs and kids." Line (157-161)

- Odysseus tricks the Polyphemus into getting drunk.
- Odysseus and his crew dig a steak into Polyphemus' only eye, blinding him.
- Odysseus taunts the Polyphemus while he is leaving.
