- When buying something, such as groceries, physical dollar bills can be used. A customer trades their money for what they are purchasing, the amount of cash depending on the price of the item.

- Venmo is just one of many phone apps that allows you to transfer money from your checking account, or the bank account that can be used to access your money that is stored in a bank. When using Venmo, a person's account is linked to their bank account, so when someone pays through the app, the money is taken out of their checking account and transferred to the app. The person who is receiving the money will then transfer it from the app into their own checking account.
- When payment is done through a check, it is linked to the checking account of the person who is giving the money. The person receiving it will take it to the bank where money will be taken from the checking account of the sender and either transferred to the receivers checking account or they are given the same amount in cash.

- When paying with a credit card, the amount a person spends is being charged to their line of credit, which is the amount of money a person has been loaned, and the money has to be payed back.

- When paying with a debit card, the card is connected to one's checking account, where their money is stored. So money is directly pulled out of their account and goes to the receiver.
- Debit Card
- When using a gift card for a specific location, a card is given a specific number to track transactions. When used, the location is given the spent amount. Prior to use, the value on the card is stored in a bank, taken from the account of the person who purchases the card, which sends the money to the location with each purchase.
