- Dad, I heard someone say that Jesus lets everyone into heaven but I thought that wasn't true.
- Johnny, I am glad you asked. Come outside and let me explain to you what the Kingdom is like.
- Johnny, want an apple?
- Yes, thank you. But what does this apple have to do with heaven and who is allowed into it?
- Yes, we get lots and lots of apples then.
- It is simple, Johnny. Do you remember when we go apple picking every year?
- But, Johnny, do we keep all of them?
- No, we only take the good ones. We throw away the ones that are filled with worms.
- Exactly, Johnny. So the kingdom of heaven is like that. It gathers all the apples and, on the last day, the apples will be sorted. All the good ones will be brought to heaven while the ones filled with worms are cast away into hell.
- So I was right, not everyone will be allowed into heaven. I mean, God doesn't want wormy apples any more than we do.
- Very true, Johnny, but remember that God is merciful. He will listen to those who ask for forgiveness but on the last day the time for judgment will have come and people will have to take responsibility for what they did in life.
- I know that, Dad. Do you think that maybe I could have another apple?
- (Laughs) Only if you can reach one.
