- How come Congress gets to declare war but the president is still Commander in chief of the military?
- Like for example the President can send troops to foriegn contries without 'Declaring' war but in the end this is just one example of the Checkes and balances describes in Federalist 58
- This would just be another example of Checks and Balances but sometimes even things like war has its loopholes.
- Well in Federalist 58 it describes the idea of Checks and Balances between each branch so that one does not have too much power
- Why is it that we have a Unitary Executive Branch but we also stress the need for Checks and Balances? Dont those things conflict?
- Instead a government that has these three branches will no doubt have to find some way to work together to get things done instead of just one doing everything.
- Its necessary to have these checks and balances because without them one would reign supreme over the other and that is not what we want.
- Just because we have an Executive Branch does not mean that it reigns supreme, These Checks and Balances are what keeps everybody in a sort of Limbo together
- Even though we live in a society that tries its best to divide the power between the branches of government there is one that stands supreme
- Who reigns supreme? Is it the Executive or the Legislative branch?
- The legislative branch has a lot of power that the Executive just cannnot have but when the legislative works together as can happen...
- Overall in my opinion when the circumstances are right, it seems that the Legislative Branch reigns supreme
- They seem to be able to override the executive branch , Like for example being able to override a veto from the executive branch
