- Open on a view of the city, which is enclosed in a bubble that the citizens are not aware of. No one goes in and no one goes out, but the average citizen has no idea that anything is out of the ordinary.

- The founders (Now known as Big Sister) created the city based on the idea that love is the cause of all unhappiness. They decided to regulate any and all relationships, deciding who a person dates, for how long, and what they will do while they are together.
- Josie Krunkeul is currently in a government mandated relationship with Brett McDoug, with the purpose Big Sister defined as "Filler". They did not like each other very much.
- Every so often, the citizens receive a notification on their communication devices that it is time to begin a new relationship.
- Josie and Brett end their relationship as instructed with very little fanfare. Their relationship turned out to be very uneventful and mildly pointless. It only lasted 3 months before Big Sister told them to move on.
- Josie and Alec meet at their newly assigned place of residence. They immediately click and begin to live together in harmony, which pleases Big Sister because they are supposed to create a child that is biologically stellar.
