Storyboard-Text

  • I can clean up those glasses in the window, if you want. The way they look now, nobody is going to want to buy them.
  • But in exchange, can you give me something to eat?
  • ...
  • Do you want to go to work for me?
  • I'll clean every piece of crystal in your shop. In return, I need money to get to Egypt tomorrow.
  • We could place a display case for the cystal outside to attract customers.
  • Because we have to respond to omens
  • Business has really improved, why ask more out of this life?
  • As the boy walks through the narrow streets of Tangier, he saw a crystal shop where he insists to work in exchange for something to eat. When he finished cleaning the glasses, the merchant invited him to eat for lunch.
  • We are obliged to visit the holy city at least once in our lives.
  • Because it's the thought of Mecca that keeps me alive.
  • Well, why don't you go to Mecca now?
  • They went to a small café nearby. The merchant offered the boy to work for him. In exchange for money so the boy can achieve his dream.
  • We could sell tea in cystal glasses to the people who climb the hill! The people will enjoy the tea and want to buy the glasses.
  • Well, isn't that good?
  • I'm already used to the way things are. I don't know how to deal with change. You have been a real blessing to me.
  • If we serve tea in crystal, the shop is going to expand. And then I'll have to change my way of life.
  • It's almost a month since the boy worked for the shop. He wanted the business to grow and so he suggested building a display case for the crystal so that he will be able to buy some sheep in about a year. At first, the merchant is hesitant because the business is already doing much better just like the old days. The boy wanted to build the shelf because according to him, they have to take advantage when luck is on their side, and do as much to help it as it's doing to help us. It's called the principle of favorability or beginner's luck.
  • I'm leaving today. Will you give me your blessing?
  • Who told you that?
  • I am proud of you. But you know that I'm not going to go to Mecca. Just as you know that you're not going to buy your sheep
  • Maktub
  • The dream of going to Mecca helps the merchant to face his battles and keeps him alive. The merchant is afraid that if his dream became true, then he will no longer have a reason to keep living
  • One afternoon the boy had seen a man at the top of the hill, complaining that it was impossible to find a decent place to get something to drink after such a climb. The merchant once again became hesitant because he is used to the way things are. However, the merchant reminisced and realize that the boy he hired that day became a real blessing for him because he's giving him new opportunities for him and his shop. Soon, he told him they could begin to sell tea in crystal glasses because sometimes there's just no way to hold back the river.
  • The day has come to finally bid farewell after months have passed. He has enough money to buy more than a hundred sheep, a return ticket, and a license to import products from Africa. He realized that the old king's characteristics are in places that help him to survive. He also realized that he is no longer happy with his decision to leave and little by little, his dream was becoming less important. Nonetheless, he decided to really go and just told himself that if he don't find his "treasure", he could always become a crystal salesman again.
