- Don't throw out your waste, it will go into a landfill! Instead, compost it and help the environment!
- Ah this apple is crumbly and too soft. What a waste!
- It doesn't have to be a waste! We can naturally recycle it, which is also known as composting.
- You can start composting in your home! Just grab any type of bin or container!
- Here we have a composting bin. We can start off by adding our garden soil, then the apple and some more soil to cover the apple.
- If your compost is too wet, add carbon, which can be found in browns. If it is too dry, add greens. It is very important that your compost is moist!
- Why does it need to be moist?
- Next, we will layer on some leaves to cover up the smell but also to make sure our compost isn't too wet. It needs to be moist. Afterwards, we add another layer of soil and leaves.
- If it is too wet, the water will block off space need for air movement, resulting in aerobic condition. If the compost it too dry, it will slow the process down. Keeping it moist is crucial.
