Storyboard-Text

  • I connected with a hospice in Greenwood Village by Agape Healthcare in order to provide some Easter holiday baskets for their residents. I talked with the organizer in order to find out what items to buy and what was most wanted/needed by residents. A date was set and I decided how many baskets I would make, 13. This process took about an hour. I was particularly interested in this opportunity as I myself was dealing with some serious medical issues and knew how little gifts could brighten up someone's day.
  • I had to visit several stores in order to find everything I needed, toothbrushes, lotion, lip balm, etc. As I am someone with a physical disability at the time this took about three hours for me to complete. Selecting the items to put in the baskets I made sure that they would be things I myself would use and appreciate. The baskets I chose were reusable and varied in style so that it would feel more unique and individual to the residents.
  • Assembling the baskets took me about two hours with my abilities. I lined each basket with tissue paper and stuffed them full. Candy of course was included and a small snack with a handwritten Happy Easter note on each one.
  • Community will always be the way we as a population, no matter the size, can help and depend on each other.
  • Handing off the baskets, transportation took about an hour total. I was not able to drive myself at the time and was assisted by someone. The baskets were packed in a box for easy exchange and I even left a few extra items in case someone wanted to switch something out.
  • We met about halfway between our bases and I handed off the completed baskets. We were also able to discuss me helping out with future events and even birthdays. Getting my contact info and applicable skills for future events we talked for about a half hour.
  • Being able to provide for the residents of a hospice and brighten up their day even just a little has helped me deal with my own medical struggles and provided me with a positive relationship I plan to continue. Hospice patients often get left behind and don't have a lot of support, this project had me step up and offer my services when otherwise I would have been too hesitant. I may never meet the people I help but, being able to contribute now and in the future is fulfilling enough, as I would want someone to think of me too in these situations.
  • Working in an emotionally stressful environment is not for everyone. As someone planning to major in mortuary science, working with hospice patients allows me to contribute even more.
