When Oedipus was born to King Laius and Queen Jocasta. The king got warned that if he were to have his son would kill him and marry his wife Because of this awful fate the king and queen sent a servant to go and hang the baby but the servant could not go through with it.
The Servent gave the baby to a shepherd who brought the baby to the House of King Pokybus and Queen Penelope. They then adopt and raise Oedipus.
Soon Oedipus found out about the oracle of him killing his father and marrying his mother. As soon as he found this off he fled to avoid happing he fled from Corinth to the city of Thebes. On his way, he runs into King Laius not realizing his father and out of self-defence killed his father and his soldiers without knowing it is his father.
Oedipus keeps heading towards Thebes when he runs into a sphinx outside of the city. The Phinx asked a difficult riddle that no one else could figure out. Oedipus answers correctly and gets to continue on his way.
Ceron, The Queens's brother decided that whoever defeated the Phinx would be made the king of Thebes and take the queen's hand in marriage. He ended up marrying his own mother without knowing and ended up having four children with her.
Years later the truth is found out. The queen commits suicide and hangs herself, when Oedipus sees this he takes out his eyes with a pin from her dress. Oedipus is then banned from Thebes and is taken by his children because he was blind. He then later died in Colonus.
