- At least we have each other. I love you.
- Love is not all:it is not meat nor drink
- But is that enough? We are stranded in the middle of nowhere with no food or drink. What are we going to do?
- I will not let you hurt her!
- Yet many a man is making a friend with death.
- Contrast Contrast is used when Millay is comparing love to things like food, water, and survival. Love is not a physical thing; it is an emotion. While the things that she was comparing it too where physical. Also love is not a need while the things she listed are. She used this to lesson the importance of love by putting it by physical needs.
- The turn in this poem is " Even as I speak, for lack love alone" (Millay, line 8). In this line she is finishing her thought from the line 7 where she is discussing her disbelief for how people will fie for love. Before the turn she was comparing love to physical needs to show that love isn't as important as people make it out to seem. After the turn she talks about her experience with love and how she deals with it.
- Here I can't deal with it any longer.
- I might be driven to sell your love for peace.
- Wait, never mind I don't think I can do this.
- It well may be. I do not think I would.
