  • In the play Lyons states, "You can't change me, Pop. Im thirty four years old. If you wanted to change me, you should have been there when I was growing up. I come by to see you ask for ten dollars and you want to talk about how I was raised. You don't know nothing about how I was raised"(Wilson 23). The audience can pick up that Troy had a big impact on Lyons life because he wasn't there to raise him. So Lyons feel like he is the way he is because Troys wasn't there during his childhood, So Lyons thinks Troy should support his dreams and it shouldn't be a problem when he ask for money because he didn't take care of him anyways.
  • What effect do they have on others?
  • In the play Troy states, " I aint worried about them firing me. They gonna fire me cause I asked a question? That's all I did. I went to Mr. Rand and ask him, "Why? Why you got the white men's driving and the colored lifting" (Wilson 9). The audience can pick up that Troy is some type of garbage man or truck driver but its clean that isn't a driver. It was felt that white men were more smarter than black men that's why they were the driving and the black men were lifters. But Troy felt otherwise he felt as if any man can drive a truck no matter the color.
  • What have they been/ Where are they going ?
  • In the play Troy states, "I'm gonna tell you what you mistake was. See you swung at the ball and didn't hit it. That's strike one. see, you in the batters box now. you swung and you missed. Thats strike one. Don't you strike out (Wilson 56). The audience can pick up that Troy has baseball sayings for his kids mainly for corey if they do something towards him. And if they strike out then they will have consequences.
