When Cory comes home from school, he is very upset because he cannot play football because Troy said he needs to keep up with his chores. This connects to the theme of betrayal because Troy allowed Cory to play football but he went behind his back and told coach he couldnt play.
Troy finds out that Cory wasnt working down at the yard. He tells Cory that since he lied to him, he cannot play football and he must work at the yard. This connects with betrayal because Troy promised Cory he would allow him to play football.
Cory tells Troy that he believes that he doesnt want him to play football because he is jealous that he was going to be better than him. This shows the theme of betrayal because Troy doesnt care about Cory playing football instead of working at the yard.
