- “Three parts of [Brutus] / Is ours already, and the man entire / Upon the next encounter yields him ours.”
- Scene 1 - Political Parties: Roman citizens are celebrating Caesar's triumph after a military campaign; however, some of them are unhappy with this triumphal parade, including Marullus and Flavius. They believe that the people have no intelligence or patriotism because they were celebrating Caesar's victory over the great Pompeii, which they thought was disrespectful towards him.
- Betrayal: Cassius tells Brutus that he thinks Caesar has become too “godlike” and was being overvalued by Romans, hence why he didn’t want him to ascend and feared he’d become a dictator. Instead, he attempts to persuade Brutus (who is Caesar’s best friend), to take his place and become leader in orer to preserve the republic.
- Casca tells Cassius that a group of senators plan to make Caesar king the next day, and Cassius would rather commit suicide before becoming a subject of Caesar's. He further persuades Brutus into joining the conspiracy. At this point, Brutus starts getting more convinced and seems to surrender.
