- In the 1860s, most of America's population was rural. Many families worked and lived on farms and grew crops for a living.
- NYC in 1870
- By 1870 there were only 2 American cities with the population of 500,000.
- Throughout the 1880s and early 1990s, skyscrapers were being built.
- In 1885, the first skyscraper was built in Chicago
- Average family in the early 1900s (1910-1920)
- More factories formed between 1865-1920 as well as businesses. This allowed many job opportunities to be available.

- By 1900, there were 6 American cities. 3 of them were New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
- By 1910-1920, America was more urban than rural.
