- Montresor and Forturnato meet up in Italy at a carnival. Forturnato was wearing a juster out fit and very drunk.

- Montresor wants to get revenge on Forturnato. He wants to get revenge because of an insult Forturnato made on Montresor

- They are both down in the catacombs looking for the Amontillado a very expensive and rare type of wine. Forturnato was drinking the whole way down into the catacombs.

- When they are deep in the catacombs, Montresor chains Fortunato to a wall inside a small alcove and begins sealing it off with a wall of bricks and bones.
