- Ghost and his mom when he was younger running from his father while he tries to shoot them. They run to Mr. Charles store and hide while he calls the cops. After this Ghosts dad goes to prison.
- Ghost sits in on a track meet, he races Lu and they both come close. On his way home coach asks Ghost to join the team and he (Ghost) makes a deal with his mother that if there are any altercation he is off the team.
- Ghost stealing the silver bullets from the store after he fell during practice/after people in one of his classes laughed at him.
- I was dressed.I was a defender.I was ready.
- Coach takes all the newbies on the team out for Chinese food. He tells them about the others on the team and gets everybody to share a secret. After all of them told a secret, they are much closer.
- My dads in jail for trying to shot me and my mom.
- Coach talks to Ghost about the trouble he's been getting into. First it was the fight with Brandon, then stealing the shoes. So he tells Ghost that he will tell his mom, but then Ghost asks him not to, so coach tells ghost he has to apologise and clean out his cab.
- The same thing running did to me, I thought it could do for you. Maybe I was wrong
- Ghost and Lu both ran the 100 meter dash, against other kids from other schools and Brandon was one of them. When Ghost heard the guns shot it brought back memories of his dad shooting at him ad his mother. Then the race started and the book was over.
