- Oh No! My friend was on the roof to get my cat Lela that got stuck up there and the ladder fell and broke, she is now stuck. I must go get a new ladder, but how tall does it need to be?
- If her angle of depression is 45 degrees and the right side of the house (where she is standing) is 12 feet tall...how tall was the ladder?

- We must use sine to find the length of the hypotenuse. Since we know sin is opposite over hypotenuse...I set up the equation...sin45 = 12/x. I then solved by plugging into my calculator 12/sin45 to find out that the length of the hypotenuse/ladder is 17.0 feet.
- WOOHOO! I just went down the slide. I am curious how many feet this slide was? Let us find the length of the hypotenuse.
- I know that my angle of elevation is 60 degrees and that the distance from the bottom of the slide to the base is 6 feet.

- We need to use cosine to find the length of the slide. Since cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse, I set up the equation as cos60 = 6/x. I then plugged 6/cos60 into my calculator to find that the hypotenuse/slide is 12 feet.
