- As the boys talk, the nurse enters and informs them that Johnny's mother has arrived to visit him. Johnny is serious about not letting her in. Johnny passes out as the nurse argues. Johnny's mother blames the gang for everything that has gone wrong in her son's life. Johnny is aware that his health is failing, and he is terrified of dying. He informs them that 16 years isn't nearly enough time to live and that it's simply not fair.
- Dallas dies(chapter 10)
- Dally appears just as the rumble begins. He declares that a rumble couldn't happen without him, regardless of the fact that he can only fight with one arm. Because they run first, the Socs lose the rumble. Ponyboys gang is beaten, but the greasers victory, and that's all that matters.
- When a cop stops them, Ponyboy pretends to be hurt, and the officer takes them to the hospital. Ponyboy and Dally come across Johnny who is dying. Johnny says , encourages Ponyboy to "stay gold," and then passes away.
- In this chapter Dallas dies. this is because he was really in touch with Johnny and couldn't take it anymore, so he decides to rob. he pulls out a fake gun, and police had to shoot him due to him holding a gun that the police thought was real.
