  • Welcome, everyone. I am your Emcee, Javier Muñoz, and I would like to thank you for joining us at this exciting event to celebrate 30 years of USAID's fight against HIV and AIDS.
  • To kick things off, please welcome this local dance troupe who will perform some traditional dances for us.
  • We now turn to the screen where Bono will provide recorded comments
  • Thank you. Now let's welcome our first panel, who will tell us what they remember about the beginning of the HIV epidemic, how USAID got involved, and how they made decisions about what to do at the beginning stages of the epidemic.
  • PANEL 1 - Looking Back Themes could include: • Women and girls • Vulnerable populations • Changing of approach; moving toward a country-based approach • Financing/sustainability Trying to avoid tradition panel format and focus on short active conversation
  • Epic Fails: What Didn’t Work This segment will showcase three examples from three different regions of interventions or projects that were not effective and will focus on lessons to be learned from those experiences.

  • Thank you. Our next panel discussion will focus on the ever-changing landscape of HIV/AIDS, with new partners and new approaches but also a changing disease. It will highlight new innovations; the changing narrative; the remaining stigma but increased awareness; and the ability of some countries to control the epidemic and focus resources elsewhere.
  • PANEL 2 - State of Affairs Themes could include: • Funding • Private Sector • Innovations • Storytelling/country application
  • We now turn to the screen to watch a film highlighting USAID's 30 Years of Leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS
