- Hello! My name is Yolanda, and today I'm going to teach you about Light Emission!
- Right now, I am at energy level one- right outside my house. In order to understand deeper we're going to have to take a look inside.
- To make it simple, let's imagine me as a electron in a atom. My home is the atom. As you see I'm pretty beat from flying all day, and had to return home because I have no more energy. I am at ground state right now.
- Unfortunately, I have to meet up with a friend in a few mintues, so I need to be able to fly again.
- Right now I'm at ground state. As you saw, energy level one is outside my house, so my friends house is at energy level two. In order for me to get to the next levels, I need to gain more energy. I do this by eating food.
- Yum!! After eating that delicious meal, me as the electron has gained enough energy, so I am able to fly farther distances.
- This is my friend Frankie. I am at excited state right now because I gained more energy to move to another level, which is Frankie's house.
- A few hours later...
- So, now I am back at energy level one because the food I ate earlier that gave me energy has worn off. This is called light emission because I- the electron- has lost energy and moved down energy levels.
