  • dolly the sheep
  • Dolly was born on the 5th of July 1996 to her surrogate mother. dolly's white face was the first sign that dolly was a clone. dolly was the first mammal to be cloned from a adult cell.
  • We told the public about Dolly on 22nd February 1997. We decided to do this because there was a scientific paper that explained everything that we did to create Dolly. She got everyone talking about the possible benefits and dangers of cloning.
  • despite having shorter telomeres, Dolly had six lambs with David, a Welsh mountain ram. Bonnie was the first of Dolly's lambs, she was born in April 1998. Twins Sally and Rosie were born the year after and triplets Lucy, Darcy and Cotton were born the year after that.
  • In 2000, after giving birth to her last lambs, we found out that Dolly had been infected with Jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus, which causes lung cancer in the sheep. She got over it, but not entirly. Then in 2001, Dolly was diagnosed with arthritis, she was treated with anti-inflamatory medication which helped her. In 2003, Dolly doveloped a cough, and we found out through a CT scan that Dolly had tumors growing in her lungs, the desision was made to enthonise her. Dolly was finally put to sleep Febuary 14th at the age of six.
  • dolly is now in a museum on display where you can have a look at her and find information
