- A Tesla company makes amazing cars and sells them to drivers all around the world. This includes people, professional drivers, and trade businesses. Unfortunately, while the company is making a lot of money from selling their cars they are indirectly negatively impacting the environment. Tesla workers are burning fossil fuels to use them for making their cars, but when the fossil fuels are burned they release different kinds of gases into the atmosphere. This includes carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases, and other gas emissions. To elaborate, fossil fuels is one of the main causes of global warming. Also, fossil fuels result in significant health costs that are not reflected in market prices. The specific costs are known externalities. The employees at Tesla tell their manager all the negative effects burning fossil fuels can have on the environment, but he does not care about the environment, and only cares about the money Tesla is making off the cars.
- The employees at Tesla bring their manager to a scientist that proves to him that burning fossil fuels is bad for the environment. The scientist shows statistics that reveal heat-trapping gases, which is caused by burning fossil fuels is the result of sea levels rising and extreme weather events occurring around the globe. To elaborate, the scientist show a recent study that explains how the world will likely experience 1.5-degree Celsius in the 2030s under five scenarios of emissions reduction. In addition, the scientist has also talked to various different doctors that claimed patients have come in with health conditions that have been created by climate change impacts, such as heat stroke and respiratory problems. Another discovery the scientist has made is that pollution which is caused from burning down fossil fuels can result multiple different health issues. This includes asthma, cancer, heart disease, and premature death. Moreover, these health conditions that the doctors have seen their patients with are mostly people of color that come from a black or Hispanic backgrounds This is because black and Hispanic people are exposed to 56 and 63 percent more pollution than they produce. The Tesla manager does not believe the scientist because he finds a lot of the information farfetched and thinks the scientist is only making it all up.
- The employees of the tesla company eventually tell their manager to research on his own the negative effects burning fossil fuels can have on the environment. The manager researches online only to discover the harsh reality of burning fossil fuels. The manager finds out about all the externalities, which are the result of burning fossil fuels. This includes ocean acidification, extreme weather, sea level rise, plastic pollution, water pollution, oil spills, and health. In addition, burning fossil fuels causes global warming, which creates risks like biodiversity loss, species extinction, food scarcity, worsening health, and poverty for millions of people worldwide. Also, fossil fuels are non-renewable and therefore supply 80% of the world's energy. Moreover the average global temperature as increased by 1C. Furthermore, black and Hispanic people are more at risk of getting cancer due to 150 nearby chemical plants and oil refineries. The manager realizes that he should stop burning fossil fuels to make cars and instead look for ways to help the environment using efficient methods.
