Describes evolution and adaptations

Storyboard-Text

  • Cat Species on Island
  • Ah yes! This is life. A life of relaxation.
  • I agree!
  • The Predators Invade!
  • Uh oh! Here come the predators.
  • Hey fellow tiger I heard there was good food here
  • I have evolved, they'll never catch me.
  • Yeah, I'm starving.
  • The Game of Hide and Seek
  • Where did all the food go?
  • We are small and plentiful!
  • Not sure, but let's move.
  • The wild cats once lived peacefully on the island with no predators. They are living the life and have all the food that they need.
  • A New Challenger Appears
  • Squawk! I see lots of prey!
  • Good luck finding them, I don't have the eyes for it.
  • Predators started to inhabit the island finding that there was a large quantity of wild cats they could prey on and the cat population started to diminish. As a result, the wild cats there have shorter limbs and smaller bodies becoming almost mouse like structures. This allows them to easily hide from the predators.
  • Spiky Spiky Outer Shells
  • Squawk! Prey hurt me!
  • As more predators start to come the smaller species of wildcats are able to hide from the predators better and there for natural selection favors the smaller species as they begin to reproduce more.
  • Birds, Birds Go Away!
  • This prey is getting too spiky for me. It isn't good for my health.
  • Let's search another place for food then.
  • The smaller species of cats start to multiply and reproduce. This causes most of the larger predators to look elsewhere for food as there small cats are not worth the effort. However, this introduces a new challenger for the smaller cat species; birds of prey.
  • Oh no. Fellow small cats, we are facing a threat from the sky
  • I feel like we'll have to evolve once more.
  • As the predator birds increase, the small call species develop a spiky outer shell to protect them from the threat from above. This acts as a defense mechanism.
  • Oh no the birds are multiplying!
  • I did it! I have developed a defense mechanism
  • This adaptation turns out to be very successful and there seems to be less predators that hunt in this area. The cat species without the spiky outer covering are nearly eliminated in this area. The spiky shelled cats can now live peacefully on the island.
  • We are small, plentiful, and well defended!
