  • Thomas Penn told colonists whoever walked the farthest would get the land they had been fighting over. The colonists believed him and walked between 60-70 miles, but Thomas ended up lying to them and none of them got the land.

  • Kings would elect candiates for the colonial government. Colonial were in charge to make laws. Only white land-owning men where allowed too vote.

  • In 1774 King George III passed the intolerable acts. Colonists were very angry because there rights were being limited, and the law was passed without there consent.

  • In 1765 the stamp act was put into place meaning all printed items had to be taxed. For example, diplomas, marriage licences, and newspaper. Colonists were very upset about this law, it was repealed in 1766.
  • In 1767 a law was passed by the British Parliament. The law stated that all goods imported from Britain had to be taxed. The tax was put into place because they needed to pay governers and judges.
  • It took Thomas Jefferson many drafts to complete the perfect version of the Declaration of Independence.
