- okonkwo became extremely famous after he through Amalinze the Cat
- I have no patience for weak and unsuccessful men... like my father!
- he was a very determined man who was quick to anger and violence. he hated his father
- Okonkwo's father, Unoka, was a kind man, however he was not wealthy. He was lazy and improvident. He played flute and he did not have a job to support his wife and children. whenever he borrowed money, he never payed it back. he left nothing to Okonkwo
- a friend of Unoka even confronted him and asked him for his money back and Unoka told his that he pays his largest debt first, so he would have to wait.
- when Unoka died, Okonkwo was left with nothing to protect his mother and sister. Because his father was poor, he had no barn or yams to grow, he had no money to begin farming, and he had no food to feed himself and his family.
- he had vowed to himself to be nothing like his father. He would hate everything his father loved, even showing emotion towards his children.
- Okonkwo was destined for great things and was prepared to work very hard to make a respectful life for himself. He would use his father's life to fuel his determination .
