- By the 1980's people saw the problems apartheid had caused and wanted to make the system fairer for all South Africans
- Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990 and campaigned to better the lives for all Africans regardless of colour
- Apartheid legislation was repelled and led to multiracial elections in 1994 which Nelson Mandela won.
