- The cotton gin is a machine that is used for cleaning cotton of its seeds, invented in the United States by Eli Whitney in 1793. Plantation owners would use enslaved people to work these machines and produce cotton. They were very useful but also increased the use of slaves tremendously.
- A german immigrant is an immigrant that migrated from germany. They left germany and came to America because of many reasons. The reasons are because there were better economic conditions, especially the opportunity to own farm land, and religious freedom. Once they came to america they took job as skill labors, as well as working in grocery stores, bakery's, and restaurants.
